Losing Weight with Healthy Food: You Are What You Eat!

By Danielle Patterson

Have you ever heard somebody state, "you are what you eat?" You may have thought it was simply a phrase used by parents who would like their kids to eat their vegetables but you really are what you eat! To illustrate, the amino acids found in the tuna from a tuna sandwich are broken down and used by your body for muscle and cell building. Your physical appearance reflects your diet, and when you ingest junk food you will find that your complexion looks worse and you appear fatter than you do when you eat healthier foods. Therefore, diet is the first place to begin when you wish to slim down. When your diet is unhealthy, working out too won't help you. Your diet needs to consist of healthy hearty meals.

The next step is to identify what good foods you must include in your weight loss diet. Naturally, a chief goal is to lower the number of calories you eat so you can slim down, but you don't want to go overboard and get so hungry that you overindulge on junk food. You should slowly modify your eating habits instead of drastically cutting your calories and food choices. Slowly phase in healthy meals and take out snacks and meals gradually. Protein is the number one thing to put in your diet. Protein is necessary for repairing cells and building muscle, and also a couple of other things. It is not at all difficult to get enough protein by adding foods such as beef, chicken, pork, eggs, and soy products to your diet. Another important food group to include is carbohydrates. You need to be careful, however, not to eat too much carbohydrates since any excess energy created by them only turns into fat. Instead, choose more nourishing carbs like whole grain bread and brown rice. Finally, you must add fats. Yes, fats! I know you're losing fat but you nonetheless must eat them. Go for healthy fats like those found in nuts and fish. And make sure to eat fresh fruit and veggie as they contain a great deal of vitamins and minerals that your body needs!

See to it that you know which foods you must not consume. Majority of them are pretty obvious; avoid ingesting too much fat by consuming lean cuts of meat and stay away from junk food because it has too much calories of little nutritional value. Stop eating refined carbs in bread and pasta products and choose healthier whole grain choices. Avoid alcohol as much as you can since it will hinder your weight loss endeavors.

So now you're aware of what you have to eat and what you need to stay away from. Explore several healthy choices to replace your current eating habits. If you're having problems with portion size try eating 5 or 6 small meals each day as your belly will get smaller, meaning you will feel fuller faster and therefore consume less food.

Don't forget an exercise program in any weight reduction program.
