Banana Smoothies Make Filling Treats

By Eleanor Austin

Banana smoothies are one of the most popular choices of meal replacement drink. They sell well at smoothie bars. Families make them on warm days or as a treat. In spite of their sweet flavor, there are a lot of nutritional benefits to adding one of these to your regular eating plan.

For one thing, they thicken nicely without the addition of dairy products. This is what makes a smoothie much like a milk shake. Sliced bananas and a bit of yogurt are all you need to create a filling drink. A touch of vanilla and some unsweetened cocoa suggest the presence of ice cream.

This is one of the reasons dieters love smoothies. Many ingredients can be incorporated into the recipe, like fiber powder and liquid vitamins. Anything unpalatable but necessary will be disguised by fruit sugars.

In the meantime, peanut butter or yogurt adds another necessary element. Although fruits and vegetables possess some protein, it is not enough to meet your daily needs. Drop a few ice cubes in the blender and a bit more of your daily water quotient is also covered.

One of the best things about bananas is that they go so nicely with other fruits. Whatever your favorites are, just slice or drop some into the jug. Great additions include strawberries, blueberries and pineapple. They will add extra fiber and antioxidants, potentially reduce the calorie content per volume, and require little extra preparation time. In fact, one more great aspect of making these drinks is that they are easy enough for a child to make them.

Banana smoothies are an ideal meal or snack for all kinds of people. They can replace a filling, high-fat, high-carbohydrate breakfast, lunch, or dinner for anyone looking to lose weight. A smoothie also attracts the interest of reluctant eaters who are uninterested in food. Use them to feed young kids losing their baby teeth. While bananas are soft and easy to chew, drinking through a straw is easier and a lot more fun.
