Coffee Trivia

By Tiffany Nash

A good cup of coffee, fine wine and good quality cigars are the three must indulged luxuries by man. There are various different types of coffee beans and these determine the flavors that the blend presents for the coffee connoisseur.

Many coffee makers blend a combination of the lower cost Robusta beans with the more expensive Arabica gourmet beans. Arabica is generally considered to be better than Robusta with its more fragrant aroma and richer taste.

The quality of the coffee is dependent on the proportions of the mix of these beans. Quite often a coffee might be advertised as a blend of gourmet beans and lower grade beans when in fact there are only small traces of the gourmet beans in the blend.

The gourmet beans gain much of their flavor from the soils they are grown in, with the best beans coming from the volcanic regions where the rich soils produce the best tasting beans.

You should drink coffee that is freshly ground because its quality suffers with time especially if exposed to air. If you are a regular coffee drinker and have occasions to drink both freshly ground coffee and coffee bought at supermarket, you cannot help but notice the superiority of the former. Coffee that are on display at the supermarkets are at best of standard quality because the manufacture is influenced by the profit motive so understandably quality is sacrificed for economy.

The best way, if you are a discriminating drinker, is to insist on freshly ground coffee. You will immediately feel the difference and without doubt will vow never to touch the standard over the counter coffee again.

Coffee grown in many places in the world has their individual and distinct tastes and fragrance.

Coffee aficionados can pick the region where the coffee bean was grown just by tasting it. The method of processing the beans also has an effect on the final flavor so you can't always assume that a coffee will be good just because it came from a particular region.

Coffee is one of the world's most popular beverages and more suppliers are catering to the needs of an ever-growing demand.
