How To Make A Smoothie With A Great Texture

By Jill Ellis

Learning how to make a smoothie the healthy way is not a difficult process. Most require just a few simple steps use only four basic building blocks. These are a combination of liquids, powders, fruits and vegetables, and ice. Varying amounts and types of these can make several different tasting and textured smoothies.

One to two cups of fluids per smoothie is recommended. Either regular or soy milk can be used to satisfy this requirement. Soy is great as it offers isoflavones, calcium, and protein and in general lasts much longer than dairy does. Further, it does not contain lactose or cholesterol, unlike cows milk. Fruit juices are also an option, but the best kind lacks added sugars and is therefore healthier.

Powder can supplement protein intake. A half or full scoop of powdered protein, preferably without aspartame, can boost nutrients. Several brands make different flavors that blend well with the tastes of fruit. Vitamin and fiber powders are healthy additions also.

Fruits are chosen based on personal preference. Each adds a different flavor and texture to smoothies. New combinations should be tried whenever possible to come up with fun and exciting results. The same holds true of vegetables. Each addition gives a different taste and consistency.

If frozen fruits or vegetables are added ice may be unnecessary. Otherwise, a few cubes cool down the temperature of the beverage and can provide it with an ideal texture. Especially in the warmer summer months this can be particularly refreshing.

Blend selected ingredients from these four categories within a blender until it circulates fully for five to ten seconds. The liquid should ideally be circulating down from the top to the bottom, so the contents have fully mixed. This can take some time and will be a longer process depending on how much must be processed.

Correctly learning how to make a smoothie can be a quick process. It requires only four ingredient types. These include vegetables and fruits, ice, liquids, and powders. Simply place these within a blender, mix them thoroughly, and they will yield a delicious beverage.
