How to design that special and cool birthday cake for that special person

By Carol MacDonald

Formerly, mothers painstakingly baked birthday cakes for their children. But now there are ready made options. Such a cake can be purchased from almost any store.

These cakes are personalized, and often display very skillful "artwork" and designs and decorations. The trend nowadays is cool birthday cakes for children.

The special cake is often planned well before the child's birthday or party. Popular animated characters, especially those from Disney movies, are often desired.

Sometimes the cake represents a child's interests, such as baseball, or dolls, or a certain fairy tale. The possibilities are as endless as one's imagination.

Be it a boy or a girl they all have their unique interests. Observation is the name of the game. In this busy world it is not always possible to watch a child to find out what would truly excite the child on that special day.

Parents and siblings could spend time talking to the child and listening to what the child is interested in. Obviously, a surprise cake makes the occasion more special than letting the child know what is being ordered.

For a theme cake, professional cake designers are your best bet. It may be tempting to try one of these at home, but without skill and experience, baking the theme cake yourself could prove too overwhelming and ultimately, unrealistic to achieve.

As a result it is best to look for a professional cake designer who is capable of designing and baking such a cake.

There is a long list of such specialists. Finding the right one is important. There may be friends who could provide the required information. The Internet is another source for such information. Websites of cake making businesses offer images the professionals are capable of creating.

Once you choose, it is important to discuss with him/her the main ingredients, the right colours, the right flavours, and the finishing touches to the theme one has in mind. It is love ultimately that goes into the effort, making the final product a gift for the child on his/her special day.
