Getting The Latest Word On Gluten Free Cake Mix

By Melissa Ritter

Until recently, finding a gluten free cake mix that didn't cost a fortune (or taste like cardboard) felt like an impossible task. Shoppers had to go to the local health food store or find an online supplier to be able to enjoy a cake that came fresh out of the oven. Often the results were disappointing and it required a lot of time, trial and error to find that perfect dessert.

With the growing awareness of Celiac Disease (an autoimmune response to gluten) and the popularity of wheat and gluten free diets, the search has become much easier, and right in your own grocery aisle!

The normal, neighborhood grocery store now lines its shelves with Celiac-friendly goods, food labels often proclaim "gluten free" right on the box or can and finding non-gluten containing goodies is a breeze. You needn't even look in the health section anymore, you can find these cakes and brownies perched right next to all of the other brands that normally contain wheat and other allergens.

Betty Crocker cake mixes are a prime example of how things have changed. They make delicious desserts that taste like the real thing. Their list includes gluten free brownies, chocolate chip cookies, devil's food and yellow cakes. In addition to the wonderful texture, consistency, taste and ease of baking (not stiff or chalky like products from years ago), they are extremely economical compared to health store brands. The best part of all is that now a parent of a Celiac child can make fresh baked goods quickly, simply by keeping a few of these Betty Crocker items in their cabinets at home.

Most grocery stores accept regular Betty Crocker coupons for use on non-wheat Betty Crocker mixes, so that customers save even more money. With today's non-wheat mixes, baked goods for celiac sufferers no longer have to taste chalky and stiff, or collapse when pulled out of the oven. In fact, with today's gluten free cake mix options, family members will have no idea that they aren't eating the real thing.
