The Mexican salsa recipe we call Salsa taquera is served at just about every taco stand I've ever been to in Mexico. This super popular salsa, a child of Mexico City's vibrant street vendor food culture, has spread throughout the country to such an extent that, today, you can walk up to any taco stand in Mexico and be very confident that you'll find some variation of this authentic salsa taquera recipe in their salsa bar.
Joined at the top of the list of super popular Mexican salsas by salsa roja and salsa verde, the scope of salsa taquera's popularity is rivaled only be the magnitude of its tastiness! My Mexican friends tell me this salsa is like a drug for Mexicans, and relate that it has become so popular that Mexican grocery company heavyweights like Del Monte and Herdez make their own blend of salsa taquera, so you can just hop over to your local grocery store to get some, when you're in an especially lazy mood!
This is an easy salsa recipe that is versatile and can be used on virtually every kind of taco there is. To make this, I'm going write the recipe for those who will using a blender (which is easier and probably more practical for most.) But if you really want to make this salsa the traditional way, you can break out the ultimate traditional cooking tool: the molcajete, and grind your ingredients up with the pestle and mortar to make your salsa taquera. Alright, enough talk; it's time to get making this easy Mexican salsa recipe!
Time it takes to make this: about 15 minutes
What you need to cook this Mexican salsa recipe:
10 green tomatillos, 2 cloves of garlic, 6 chipotle chiles (or just 3 if you're new to spicy chiles), 1/8 cup white vinegar, 1 chile serrano (serrano pepper), 2 cups water, 1 tbsp black pepper, 1 tbsp dry oregano, 1 tbsp salt, 2 small roman tomatoes
How to cook it:
Put the tomatillos and tomatoes in a pot with the water and bring it to boil.
Drain them and put them in the blender, after they've boiled.
Finish making this salsa recipe from Mexico by adding all the other ingredients to the blender and then mixing it all together.
And voila! You have your Mexican salsa recipe! Now you can dress your favorite tacos in this and give it an additional layer of delectable flavor. Salsa taquera is a treat when served with carne asada or arrachera tacos, but you really use it for just about any Mexican recipe that you'd serve with salsas (which there are many). I think you'll love this salsa, and if you do, you'll likely also enjoy trying other authentic Mexican food recipes! Enjoy!
