By Mike Jenkinson

War is something that every nation is forced to deal with at one point and time. A lot of countries elect to recognize the lives that were lost during the battles that their people fought. Ever since the beginning of time, there have been people that have reluctantly decorated the grave sites of their loved ones that lost their lives fighting for every human beings freedom. American Memorial Day traditions actually date as far back as the civil war period.

Many widows, mothers, husbands, sisters and brothers would set aside a special day to decorate the graves of their loved ones. Although these people have been exercising their devotion to the ones that they lost in battle for an extremely long time, the Memorial Day holiday was actually not observed and passed by the nation until June 28, 1968.

Individuals began actively taking part in the observance of this particular date in 1971. The White house actually had a difficult time trying to pass a law that stated that people were going to be given the ability to remember their lost family members in a way that they desired.

A lot of people choose to observe this holiday in many different ways. Most employers will give their employees the day off to spend with their families and to remember the lives that were lost in order for them to have the type of freedom that they are able to exercise today.

A lot of televised broadcasts will also be performed to give individuals the ability to remember the soldiers that risked their lives to ensure that everyone that lives on their soil are able to have the same rights as they had when they were living.

A lot of the younger generations that exist today, are oblivious to the fact that Memorial Day is supposed to be a day to remember the lives that were lost so they could have their freedoms they openly exercise every single day. Most young people tend to look at this holiday as a day that they do not have to go to school or work. However, this special day is actually a very important day to recall that freedom does not come free.
