Recipes Which Involve Vegan Pesto

By Lesa Parker

There is an abundance of recipes that involve vegan pesto sauce which are all healthy and nutritious and worth attempting to make. Years ago when the Italians first created it there were no dairy ingredients like cheese added to it. The base recipes id the best one for you to utilize when planning dishes you will make.

You are well advised to choose these particular ingredients as your starting point for any experiments you do with this versatile green sauce. This will stand you in good stead for anything further that you do when working with this combination in the kitchen. Use your imagination to get the best results.

The traditional recipe consists of three different ingredients. They are fresh basil which should be organic for the best taste, olive oil and pine nuts. They can be bonded together in a blender or by handle while using a pestle and mortar. The oils are released from the herb along with a range of others which blend well together to give you a fresh tasting, herbal and aromatic treat.

There are many variations on this, most of which involve adding different herbs or even different nuts which gives it more flavor and texture that some people try to obtain by adding things like cream cheese when ingredients like cashew and walnuts can help to achieve this. Ensure these are properly ground in to your pesto so that it is distributed evenly.

To keep this as a strictly vegan dish you may add soy cream cheese and this can alter the texture giving it an added thickness that makes it a more indulgent treat. There are a lot of things that can be used to add different textures and flavours in this regard. Even olive oil can be replaced by others if this is better for you

Many foods benefit from this but the one that springs to mind first is Pasts. Pasta made from whole grains is the most nutritious but if the flavor is not your favourite then adding pesto to it is an option you may wish to exercise. Let the pasta cook and then drain it and leave it to settle before adding the pesto and stirring it in.

When served cold this can also be a great addition to a lunchbox or also something you can take out on a trip or a picnic. It works well cold and tastes really good when you eat it the next day after it has been prepared.
