Italians are famous for the method they celebrate Easter with pomp and splendour and they enjoy it with good food too. Since Easter follows a forty day period of lent that involves fasting, it is understandably celebrated with good food.

It takes just one hour to prepare the Italian Easter bread. If one would like to follow the old Swiss and Italian methods of preparation then it may take more time as importance is given to decorative food substances such as eggs to give the bread an extra festive look.
Italian Easter bread does not press for the use of special ingredients for its preparation. Rather it would suffice to have margarine, all purpose flour, eggs, salt, sugar and active dry yeast for its preparation. Blanched almonds, a teaspoon of anise seeds and mixed candied fruit may serve as additional ingredients.
Yeast, adequate sugar, one cup of flour and salt should be first mixed in a bowl. To this mixture add butter and milk and beat for about two minutes. Do not dilute the mixture and so beating has to be done to the medium. After adding two eggs and half a cup of flour beat the blend again for two minutes. To this mixture special ingredients including nuts, aniseeds and fruits may be added and the whole substance should be well mixed. Add the remaining part of the flour to this mixture to make it a soft dough that eases the work further.
Upon a lightly floured surface the dough has to be placed and the flour need to be squeezed for about six to eight minutes till it becomes smooth and elastic. After oiling a bowl keep the dough inside it. Put the bowl in a warm place after fully covering it. You will see the dough doubled after nearly an hour or so.
If you wish you may add uncooked coloured eggs and after this process, allow the bread to be cooked in an oven for about half an hour at 350 degrees and after that voila! Your Italian Easter bread is ready to consume.
