If getting from your car to your door seems like a march through the tundra these winter days, you are part of a large group of us who are finding any excursion out of doors not merely difficult, but almost impossible. Any extra stop at the grocery store is so excruciating that driving through for fast food sounds like a good idea. But, the waste of money just defeats my budget, even though, the nice warm car is tempting. How can you feed your family a nice, hot meal without suffering those icy cold trips? By planning one shopping day with one goal in mind - creating enough crock pot meals for at least one whole week. Let's see what it takes to plan crock pot meals for the week.
I've decided to pick out some of our favorite crock pot recipes. There is enough of a variety of dishes that my family shouldn't get bored. The grocery list comes next. It's pretty lengthy, but I want to make sure that everything is included so there are no last minute runs to the store. Once I get back from the store, I'll review my menu and freeze any meat that won't be used until later in the week. Then, by chopping and bagging all the vegetables for each meal, I'll be ready for day one of my crock pot week of meals. So, here's the plan.
Sunday: There's nothing better than the aroma of a Rotisserie Chicken. You don't need to go to the deli for that crispy, juicy whole chicken anymore. Create the perfect Sunday dinner by serving your special mashed potatoes and buttery green beans to complete the meal.
Monday: Create a classic sandwich with a Crock Pot French Dip Roast recipe that's as easy as it is tasty. Serve this beef on a hearty roll topped with mozzarella cheese and your family will be just as satisfied as if they had a six course meal.
Tuesday: How about a little spice in your life? Try a Mexican Chicken meal that spicy and creamy at the same time. Served over a plate of hot rice, this spicy meal will warm up the entire family inside and out.
Wednesday: Having a meatless meal at least once a week is a great way to stretch your food dollars. A nice, rich Minestrone Soup is just the answer when you want to serve a really filling meatless soup. Go ahead and use chicken broth instead of beef broth if you like. Either way this soup is tasty and satisfying.
Thursday: An inexpensive alternative to chicken is a sweet and tangy Crock Pot Turkey Breast meal. The sauce that surrounds the turkey is a very flavorful cranberry sauce and onion combination that is both fancy and filling.
Friday: There is always one day of the week that's busier than most. You'll be glad to have a refrigerator full of leftovers for that day. Arrange everything you have left over on the counter, place plates and bowls at the head, and have your family line up. It's Smorgasbord time!
Saturday: This is the time for watching games and races with a big platter of Pulled Pork Sandwiches to enjoy. Add some crunchy dill pickles, chips and dip, and you'll have your very own little party.
Sunday: Once again, we are taking time to spend a day at home, slow down the pace, and enjoy a nice, big meal together. The whole family enjoys a Tangy Chicken done Polynesian style. The little ones just love the pineapple and the adults enjoy the tanginess that comes from the soy sauce.
Come on in out of the cold! Plan your crock pot meals for a week, do your prep work, and I guarantee you'll never go back to those frigid grocery store quick-stops again. You'll be hooked on your new plan when you walk into a warm house with the sweet aroma of a delicious dinner waiting to warm the whole family from head to toe.
