The Low Carb Pizza

By Debra Hernandez

For as long as we can remember, the pizza we all know and love has been around for ages. Many low carb dieters say that it's the one thing they end up craving on a low carb diet. I still could not quite put a finger on what it is exactly about the pizza that makes people go nuts. Perhaps it has something to do with all that grated cheese and tomato sauce. Whatever it is, though, I have to admit it is quite addicting. One way to deal with all that temptation then is to create a low carb pizza recipe.

There are many low carb recipes out there now so it's not hard to imagine that someone would have come up with a low carb pizza. What's perhaps so amazing about this low carb pizza is just how delicious it is! You'd be astounded at how much it is similar with real pizza! You can put all your favorite toppings like basil and pepperoni and sausage on it too.

Foods similar to pizzas have been available for centuries. It started out as plain flatbread. Then people gradually started adding more and more ingredients to the bread to make it more flavorful. Soon, even oil was added as toppings. It has its roots in the Mediterranean where people still love to eat focaccia and other types of flavored flatbread. What really made pizzas take off was the addition of tomatoes. Despite misgivings about tomatoes since they were believed to be poisonous, people still took to the delicious and flavorful taste of this vegetable fruit. Soon, Naples became the pizza capital. It has become a major draw of tourists and foreigners as they all flocked to this city to have a taste of their pizza. There had been lots of documentation about the pizza by famous authors. Those few Italians who want to keep their pizzas 'pure' have the option of adding either tomato sauce or marinara sauce. Only when do they feel the urge to add anything else can they do so.

With such a rich history, there is no wonder why a lot of people are enamored with pizza. However, the health benefits of pizza are found to be considerably lacking, as compared to other types of food, including bread. Some scientists speculate that it is the combination of carbohydrates from the crust, fats from the cheese, and protein from the meat toppings that make it a deadly food.

Health is one of our greatest concerns these days. Perhaps you have been wondering how, despite being exposed to pizzas for ages, Italians still manage to maintain thin frames. There are so many possible answers to that question. First, they are genetically made to have builds like that, plus they exercise more than Americans do. They do not consume pizza every day, and when they have their meals, they eat sparingly, in small servings. After all, pizza is not the only thing in Italian cuisine. Even if they have dishes with pasta or bread in them, they usually consume only a very small portion. Italian food, as we know it, is not actually what Italians eat.

I do not see this passion for pizza going away any time soon so the least we could do is to find another way to deal with it. Which explains why low carb pizza is considered invaluable. Because of it, we can still enjoy our much loved foods without worrying about unhealthy consequences. Now we can all eat pizza in peace.
