By Anukriti Parsai

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but it is also one of the most difficult to prepare, as most moms will agree. There are plenty of bread recipe available but to invent a new, mouth-watering and healthy dish to prepare every morning is not a simple task. Here is an easy sausage bread recipe that is healthy and simple to prepare.

What you'll need:

- Italian sausage - five hundred grams

- Italian bread - one loaf

- Beefsteak tomato - 1

- Bell peppers (cut in strips) - one cup

- Sliced mozzarella cheese - 4 cups

- Sliced green olives - quarter of a cup

- Black olives (sliced) - quarter of a cup

- Olive oil - 1/2 cup

- Balsamic vinegar - 1/4 cup

- Dried oregano - 1/4 tablespoon

- Dried basil - quarter of a tablespoon

- Salt - A pinch

- Ground black pepper - A pinch

- Diced onion - two tablespoons

- Garlic (fresh diced) - one teaspoon

Method:

- Preheat the oven to 200 C.

- Crumble the sausage and simmer over a low heat until nicely browned. Remove from the stove then drain and place aside.

- Roast the bell pepper slices gently then set aside to cool.

- Slice the bread loaf in half lengthwise and lay it on a baking sheet crust down.

- Spread some of the crumbled sausage over each half of the bread and then top with roasted bell peppers and sliced beefsteak tomatoes.

- Decorate with the sliced mozzarella cheese and olives.

- Bake the bread in the oven for ten minutes.

- Mix the olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt, pepper, dried oregano, dried basil, diced onion and diced garlic in a bowl then whisk together well.

- Drizzle over the baked bread then bake again for a further two minutes.

- Cut in thick slices and serve hot.

You can also use frozen bread dough to make the sausage bread. For this variation you'll need:

- Frozen bread dough - one (1)

Preparation:

- Let the bread dough defrost overnight.

- Roll out the bread dough to 1/4-inch thickness on a clean surface using a rolling pin; try to keep the thickness even.

- You can dust some flour on the bread dough for smooth rolling. Take care to ensure that the dough isn't too thin otherwise it will not hold the filling.

- Crumble and cook the sausage and add roasted bell peppers to the mix along with sliced tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, pepper, olives, balsamic vinegar and 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Mix all the ingredients together well.

- Spread the ingredients on the rolled out bread dough and roll the bread into a sausage shape.

- Bake at 200 C for roughly thirty (30) to thirty-five (35) minutes.

- Remove from the oven once the bread is nice and brown on the outside and cut in slices to serve.
