Enjoying White Wine Even If You're On A Diet

By Victor Hood

There are 80 calories in a glass of sweet white wine, and most of those calories come from the alcohol. However, a Chardonnay only has 60 calories. If you want to enjoy white wine without ruining your diet, then choose a drier white wine with low alcohol.

The fact is, white wine is just a mixture of alcohol, flavoring, and water. The grape juice that the wine starts off as is oxidized by the yeast added in the wine making process and the sugar is converted into alcohol and carbon dioxide. That's why people on a diet should only drink white wine that's low on alcohol.

White and red wine have a positive effect on the digestive system provided they're consumed in moderation. One glass of wine with your meal will probably be beneficial to you.

Selecting The Right White Wine

You can select a wine that's affordable and commonly available once you've made your decision that you prefer white wine and willing to monitor your usage as part of your weight control program. There are tons of white wines available in the stores. You can find some in a Chablis, German varietals, and even expensive wines from California and France.

Depending on your personal taste, you'll be able to choose a wine that you like. Do you prefer wine that has a wooden/oak taste or wine whose flavor is more robust? When it comes to white wine, a wide range of tastes is available. There are even those which have fruits like pears or apples mixed with them in order to give a more refreshing flavor and peppery wines developed in special soils that give the grapes a unique bite.

Alcohol can impair your capabilities so it's not a good idea to drink and exercise. If exercise is a requirement for your weight loss program, it's better to drink only during your rest days.
