Party Time with Mexican Veg Recipes

By Kinjal Darukhanawala

When people decide to detox and get on the road to a healthier more spiritual and eco-friendly lifestyle, one of the biggest changes they adopt is to become vegetarian. However, the myth that veg fare does not have enough variety or flavour profiles to keep you interested has long repelled people from committing to this big change. When you can now find nutritious as well as tasty meal options with Mexican veg recipes, Indian veg recipes and the like, then why hesitate!

Vegetarian food has long been viewed in many countries as simply something that is served as a side dish or an accompaniment. When people think veg they still think of listless salads and bland, boring diet food. But it is does not have to be such a limited and frankly boring way of life.

If you are planning on hosting a shindig and want to go the vegetarian route without compromising on a largely authentic flavour profile, you will be happy to know that Mexican cuisine can be adapted to suit a meat-free palate with simple modifications.

Another big ingredient is beans. You will find either beans or refried beans in almost every Mexican dish and they are ideal to make a hearty dish without using any non-vegetarian component, because they not only fill you up but are also packed with protein. Black beans and pinto beans are a common feature.

Another favourite in Mexican cuisine are fajitas. A fajita is usually meat that is grilled and served on a tortilla. It is then sometimes accompanied by rice and other condiments like sour cream, cheese, guacamole, lettuce etc. To change it into a tasty veg dish simply swap out the meat with mushrooms like a big grilled portabella mushroom or soy chunks and load it with extra rice, onions, peppers, tomatoes, cheese, guacamole and the added condiments.

Fajitas are a great party food and you can even let the guests load up their plates themselves with the fillings and accompaniments they want, buffet style. In this way there are many recipes that you can indulge in with a few basic components and let your guests experiment with as well.

With so many nutritious ingredients vegetarians will definitely not miss out on any health benefits even if they leave out the meat. They say that the more variety and colour you add to your meal the better it is for you; not only because it looks appealing but also because it will cover many different food groups you need for a balanced diet.

Next time you decide to throw a party or host an event, why not try some delicious Mexican veg recipes. Not only will you be doing good by cutting meat consumption but also opening yours and your guests' taste buds to an entirely new nutritious and interesting flavor profile.
