Ideas For Upping Your Intake of Dried Goji Berries

By Ashleigh Heywood

Not everyone likes the taste of Goji berries, but most people realise that they are very good for them so want to include them in their diet. Dried Goji berries also have a strange texture which puts some people off.

If you are creative you can use dried Goji berries in many different ways, so can find a way to eat them that either changes their texture or disguises the taste of them. Some cooking and serving methods can do both. By thinking outside the box you can still include dried Goji berries in your diet even when you do not like eating them in their raw state.

The easiest way to used dried Goji berries is to include them in a homemade fruit smoothie. A banana based smoothie is the best if you want to disguise the taste of dried Goji berries.

Mixing dried Goji berries with some sunflower seeds or another oily seed or nut dulls the taste of the dried Goji berries.

For some people it is the texture of the dried berries that puts them off. If you are one of those people soak the berries. You can use any liquid you like the flavour of e.g. fruit juice, milk, tea or water. You can make the texture of the berries more acceptable to your palette by mixing them with a moist food or cutting them up very finely.

Using dried Goji berries in baked goods can also make them more palatable. The best way to bake with dried Goji berries is to include them in flapjacks. They also taste nice if you use them in cakes, but it is a good idea to soak them before adding them to cakes.

Pre-soaked Goji berries taste great sprinkled on a salad especially if that salad includes a sweet element. If you make something like a Russian salad you could also try adding a few finely chopped dried Goji berries to that.

Dried Goji berries work well when added to a stew or curry. North African stews and curries often call for the use of dried fruit, so swapping half the raisins in the recipe for Goji berries is very easy.

You can also finely chop Goji berries, add them to fruit juice and make ice lollies with them. The fruit juice disguises the taste of the berries and the ice crystals makes the texture of the dried berries far softer.
