How To Request A Recipe From Restaurant

By John Farrier

The simple answer is yes, most chefs are more than happy to share their knowledge with those that have appreciated their dishes. For many eating out is not only a pleasure but a fantastic way of trying out new dishes that you wouldn't normal risk making yourself. Although some recipes will never be disclosed to customers for fear of it falling into the competitions hands there is no harm in asking. So is it possible to get a recipe from restaurant.

Larger restaurants and chains may not be as receptive to enquiries as the smaller ones but this shouldn't put you off from asking. Don't worry about interrupting the chef, they love the job they do and in most cases are more than happy to share their knowledge with you.

Make sure you have something to hand to write down the ingredients and instructions the chef gives you, as even the slightest change to the recipe or how the dish is prepared, and or made could have a drastic effect on the outcome and the overall flavor. Most chefs have access to more exotic ingredients and herbs than the average person so it is worth asking what more accessible items can be used in their place.

Once you have the basic information that you need, you can ask about any tips to make sure the dish turns out perfectly. Knowing whether something can be prepared in advance and how long it can be kept for are important as well. Some of the best tasting food needs to be purchased fresh and prepared on the same day.

If the thought of cooking fills you with fear but you really would like to impress your diner guests at the next party or treat your partner to something special there are other options open to you. You could either employ the services of a local professional caterer or simply ask the restaurant to prepare the meals for and either collect or see if they will deliver them for you.

So no matter how you go about it, by either having the recipe and making it yourself or cheating and having a professional do it for you there is no need to worry. Be bold and try new dishes and if you really like it and think you could d it yourself, just ask for the recipe.
