Does Pork Make You Fat

By Jeremy Caxton

People are becoming far more conscious about the food they are eating than they used to be. Another thing people are more careful about is nutrition because the media has made sure we are all much more knowledgeable about it these days. But despite the fact that there is plenty of good information available these days, there is also plenty of information which is not so helpful and which can lead us to become a bit confused about what we should and shouldn't be eating.

One innocent victim of all this misinformation has been pork. One of the claims that is most damaging to the reputation of this meat is that eating pork makes you fat; this is not the reality and here we will explain why.

Eating too much of any food not just pork is going to make you fat. You should not eat more than the size of your fist of pork; sticking to this recommended portion size will mean that you don't have to worry about becoming overweight. It is recommended that you only eat lean cuts of pork as it is the fat on pork which has the most calories.

There is absolutely no reason why you can't eat pork as part of your diet and still retain a healthy body weight. The reason people put on weight will be a combination of foods and the amount that is eaten and not just because of one element of their diet.

Regardless of the fact that pork seems to be on everyone's hit list these days, most nutritionists would tell you that pork is actually a very healthy choice to have in your diet. Pork is a fabulous source of protein and it also contains plenty of important minerals and vitamins. There are plenty of top athletes and other healthy people who rely on pork as part of their diets.

So don't believe all you hear these days; pork does not make you fat.
