The Italian way of celebrating the holidays is by preparing a wonderful feast and sharing it with friends and family. As sweet as it does sound the Italians are very serious about their food and put in a lot of effort into it.

Italians give preference to food when it comes to having a holiday celebration. This is because their entire family would take part in such feasts. They not only expect tasty food but would anticipate several varieties of them as well.

Women prepare food items meant for Easter well in advance. Really it is not an exaggeration when you say that Italians awaits Easter in anticipation of palatable food. The best and the most popular of these sorts of food are the Easter desserts.

The Italian Easter Sunday desserts are the most delicious and sweetest among all the food items. The Italians' festive mood is aroused by the very presence of these desserts and they enjoy them with the company of their families and friends.

The most preferred among the Italian Ester desserts is the Colomba Pasuale of the Easter dove. Sweet bread prepared in the shape of a dove is called the Easter dove. Desserts are cooked with the sweet bread as an integral part. Almond toppings, sugar and candied peel are used in the making of the sweet bread. There are different versions of Easter dove available in Italy.

Zabaglione which is a scrumptious Marsala eggnog cream is used in the partaking of sweet bread. This cream is also used to make a zabaglione filled Easter dove. Bakers in Italy on Easter Sunday sell in their stalls what is known as Pandiramerino that are rosemary buns. These will be given to people who return from churches. The buns represent Jesus and the rosemary represent the scented oils that were smeared on Jesus' body to cleanse it.

Italian Easter cake is another Easter special. There are variations found in the making of this type of Italian Easter dessert too. The same cake mix can be used to prepare muffins. Italian Easter cake is easy to prepare as the ingredients used in the preparation of this type of cake are the same that are used in the preparation of any other cake. The one special item that is used is the ricotta cheese.

Italian Easter cookies is another food recipe that is kept on the table as a part of the feast. These cookies are the most preferred dish of the Italians.

They prepare the cookies with coloured icing to celebrate the festive season although some may make the cookies without the icing also. There are also many variations of the Italian Easter pies that can be supplied as dessert items such as the Italian rice pie and the Italian ricotta pie.
