Even though we all know how important good nutrition is for our well-being, most of us simply don't have the time and determination to eat healthy diet all the time. Even eating the minimum daily servings of fruits and vegetables can be hard when you are constantly in a hurry, or too tired to spend in the kitchen.
Preparing healthy dishes, chopping salads, making soups and steaming veggies, even though it can be enjoyable, for many people doesn't sound like a fun activity to do after hard day at work. It's much easier to opt for some pre-packaged meal or takeout, which is usually not the healthiest option.
If this describes you, I recommend you start making green smoothies - they can truly change your health (and your life) for the better.
Why green smoothies? Because they are easy to make, easy to eat even on the go, provide loads of excellent nutrition - plus they taste great! Green smoothies are simply fruit smoothies with added greens - even your kids will love them (you don't need to tell them what's in it!).
Here is a simple recipe for you to try:
**Easy Green Smoothie Recipe**
2 bananas (choose the ones that are very ripe, preferably with brown spots, as they make the smoothies deliciously sweet)
1 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
1 handful of spinach or other leafy greens
1 cup of water (you may choose to replace water with fresh juice, almond milk, or other type of liquid).
Some people like to add additional sweetener, such as honey, agave, or stevia (unlike splenda, stevia is a natural sweetener that can be safely used). You may also choose to add some yogurt, milk, juice, and/or ice.
Have fun and experiment with various fruits and greens. Some of my favorite ingredients are apples, bananas, blueberries, strawberries, avocado, spinach, kale, celery, arugula and parsley. Use what you and your family likes, but don't be afraid to try new combinations.
Of course, you will need a kitchen blender to make these green drinks. Any blender can probably do acceptable job, but to get truly smooth green smoothies, I recommend Vitamix 5200 or Blendtec - these are the two top choices for making smoothies.
