The Way to Bake a Chocolate Cake at Home

By Anu Parsai

It's time to wave goodbye to cake mixes that come in a box. Why use a boxed cake mix to make a cake when you can use a homemade chocolate cake recipe? When you put the ingredients into the cake yourself, then you know exactly what you will end up with on your table at the end, and that's worth far more than the little amount of added effort it can take to make a chocolate cake recipe from scratch. Additionally, most people know that a home made chocolate cake recipe tastes much better than what comes out of a box. The likelihood is that you already have a lot of the ingredients too.

What you'll need:

- 1/2 cup of butter or margarine

- Two (2) cups of sugar

- Three medium eggs

- One and a half (1 1/2) tsp. of vanilla

- Three squares of baker's chocolate

- 2 cups of flour

- Two (2) tsp. of sodium bicarbonate

- Half a teaspoon of salt

- One (1) cup of sour cream

- One (1) cup of boiling water

To prepare:

1. Mix together the butter and sugar in a large mixer bowl.

2. Crack the eggs into the bowl and continue to mix.

3. Then add the vanilla and chocolate and mix vigorously.

4. Add the remaining ingredients. (It helps to sift the dry ingredients.) Use an electric beater if you have one convenient as it'll make this process much easier.

5. Pour the cake batter into a lightly greased cake tin.

6. In a pre-heated oven at 350F, bake the cake batter for thirty-five (35) minutes. Keep a watch on it when it gets close to the end.

One or two notes referring to allergic reactions and lifestyle preferences.

Vegans: Some vegans prefer not to consume butter or margarine or perhaps eggs and sour cream. As these ingredients represent a major portion of the recipe I'd suggest avoiding this particular recipe altogether. I have created numerous alternate recipes for vegans which can be found on the Cake Recipe Secrets web site.

Celiac's: Rice flour is an alternative, but it tends to make the batter thinner leading to a dryer baked product.

Nuts: Although the recipe is nut-free some people may choose to add nuts to the recipe for their texture. My suggestion would be walnuts or almonds. The almonds should be sliced thinly and peeled.

Additionally, if time is a problem and you want some kind of topping then a thin layer of double cream with a drizzle of honey is a good short-cut.

Once your cake has finished baking, simply remove it from the oven to cool down. Before it's completely cooled, add a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a delectable combination.
