Pork And The Dangers To Your Health

By Musa Aykac

One of the most popular meats that we have here in the UK is pork but the media would have you believe that it is not good for you with some of the scary stories going around. If some parts of the media had their way we would probably need to wear protective clothing when just looking at pork, and we would certainly never put it in our mouths again.

So you may actually be wondering about how fair all this criticism really is is there any truth to these stories or are they exaggerated for sensationalism?

Well if you do like pork, then you will be delighted to know that there is actually a lot of evidence which suggests it can be quite a healthy choice. Like most things we do need to be moderate in the amount we eat, but pork is a very nutritious meat that can be surprising low in fat especially if we choose the leaner options.

Pork contains some vital nutrients such as B12, niacin, thiamine, B6, and riboflavin and it is also a great source of protein the building block of the body. If you were to ask most nutritionists about the health benefits of pork, they would agree that it is full of essential nutrients which help to make it a very healthy choice; so not everything that you hear about in the media should be believed.

So where does all this anti-pork sentiment come from? You really have to blame the media for this one. Those in the media know that bad news sells and that writing about how healthy pork actually is will not sell their papers etc; it is much more interesting to read about how bad something is.

So the media have misled us by giving us this distorted image of pork. Pork really is no different to any other type of meat or food in that it can cause negative effects when not eaten sensibly.
