Are Food Bars Good For You?

Many of these food bars and energy drinks that were once thought to be good for you have recently been exposed as not so good for you as the manufacturers want you to believe. Health problems and even deaths have been linked with these energy drinks and health bars. The key to keeping yourself healthy is to pay attention to what is in the foods and drinks you eat and avoid overusing them. Pay close attention to the following tips about energy drinks and food bars.

Most people who consume these products do so to gain endurance for a workout or other exercise. This can be anyone from a high school athlete to a professional athlete to a middle aged man or woman going to the gym. There are studies that show hydration as a major concern during exercise which makes water the ideal beverage. Caffeine, sugar and other herbs and vitamins found in energy drinks may give you short term energy they also cause you to crash. If weight loss is your goal but you need the extra energy for your workout, try to find one with no added sugar.

As a proxy for energy drinks that are high in sugar and caffeine, several health food markets and supermarkets are making all natural drinks with no extra stimulants available. These embrace fruit juice blends made stronger with "superfoods" - for example spirulina or blue green algae, coconut water or kombucha tea, which has been used in Chinese medicine for centuries.

Some energy or food bars have a large amount of fat and sugar or high fructose corn syrup, and these really aren't any more nutritious than candy bars. Although, some energy bars have a lot of protein can be a healthy snack in between meals or prior to a workout. There is an array of food bars on the market and of course some of the more enhanced ones are Prana Bars, Larabars and Probars.

Then again, don't forget that even the finest among them aren't intended for all day consumption, as a substitute to water and real foods. It is of no matter how natural a packaged item says it is it can't be as unaffected as whole foods or a glass of pure water. In a nutshell, it's acceptable to drink energy drinks sometimes or eat a food bar as a snack, but don't assume that they'll give you every bit of your nutritional needs.
