Remembering The Sweet Things Of The Past

By Anna Wilson

We all loved to eat candy when we were younger didn't we! I don't suppose that we eat as much nowadays, although the craving can still sometimes be there now an again. There are a lot of candies back then that no longer exist.

Candy was always advertised on the television back then, never a day went by without one of the big names being shown to the world; but that did not matter because even after all the publicizing that they seemed to get, some of these seem to have disappeared from the shelves. Here are a few examples of the sorts of candy that I am referring to.

I remember over 20 years ago, back in the Eighties to be precise, a Candy by the strange sounding name of Bonkers. It may have sounded strange but this Creamy, fruity, chewy sweet candy was much loved by lots of kids of the day.

Bonkers came in a variety of different flavors. A couple I remember were Watermelon and Strawberry, but the funny thing that I remember about this Candy was that shortly after introducing a Chocolate flavor, they just seemed to vanish from sight, strange but true.

Do you also remember the Bubble gum that used to come in a mini Juice box? There were lots of different flavors to those. Although Bubble gum has not entirely disappeared, it was much more popular about 20 years ago.

The Juice box gum used to have hundreds of little pieces in them, not like today's packs with a few pieces or sticks in a pack.

Another favorite that seems to have vanished from our shelves is the Mars bar, what happened to that then?

Well actually it looks as though it has just changed its name to Snickers Almond. There has not really been a big announcement on this, but if you taste one you will see what I mean.

How I still remember the sweets of yesteryear with fondness.
