The Best Sandwiches Are The Ones You Can Make With Whatever You Want

By Helge Vang Andersen

No matter where you go in the world, people have something that is almost like a sandwich. It might be some meat or veggies in between two pieces of Matzos or in a Pita. The fact is, the sandwiches are a widely popular type of lunch food in America.

The average person may think that a sandwich starts with the bread, and they would be wrong. It begins with an imagination that is not bound by traditions other than what that individual brings to the cutting board. The bread, or canvas for this art, is necessary as a sandwich is usually two or more of them with various meats, condiments and garnishes placed between them.

The bread, from standard white, whole wheat, oatmeal, potato as well as many others is where it all starts. Some people prefer the Hoagy roll while others will make theirs out of a bagel. Some will use pumpernickel and all of the other types, brands, colors and shapes of bread that are all popular.

Meats, of just about any kind are in the recipe list as well. Roast beef, ham, chicken, turkey will be just a very few of the many people will have in their creations. Many of them will be placed inside the bread together for that unique taste. Pepperoni, bacon and many other items in this category can be included and no one can say they do not.

The condiments as well as other garnishes have not been left out and is largely the reason for all of the ingredients being spread out on the counter. Mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, vinegar and other, more spicy, spreads are used to give this sandwich its specific flavor. Lettuce, onions, pickles, hot peppers of every make and cheese, can be inserted into these wonders of engineered delights.

The wide appeal of the sandwich is universal. The ingredients are all part of what a sandwich is and what the diner wants for that meal. The way to approach the idea that sandwiches are a widely popular type of lunch food, it is important to note that they are individualized to every one and no two are alike because no two diners are alike.
