How an Organic Farmers Market Could Have Benefited the Gales

By Rob Sutter

Dorothy's time on her aunt and uncle's farm was pretty complex for a simple Kansas girl. She had to cope with her family and friends who might not have paid the most attention to her and the fact that Almira Gulch was the definition of a witch only made things more troubling for her. As a result, one can see just how useful the journey to Oz was for the simple Kansas girl. Even after being brought back to reality, I'm sure she would have been able to help her home financially through way of an organic farmers market.

I'm sure most, if not all, of us have seen "The Wizard of Oz" along with Dorothy's growth throughout the movie. When she landed at Oz, she was well-mannered but weak in comparison to the woman that she would eventually grow into. She was threatened at times, which only helped to bring out the personality she rarely showed until then. She had the chance to develop a more robust sense of self and she executed that well. Who's to say that wouldn't translate well to a life on the farm as an organic salesgirl?

Dorothy, as she resided on a farm, would be able to have as much livestock as one could like but the money issue is another story. Things became so bleak that the family had to appease the despicable Gulch after she threatened to have the farm taken away. In order for life for the Gales to become better, I believe that it would be in their best interest to let Dorothy try her hand at a market to sell crops. Who's to say that it wouldn't be a success after a few days?

I believe that success would come to fruition, especially when companies the likes of Colle Farmers Market have seen a great level of success. These organizations have done well in supplying farmers with the Internet platform they desire in the name of selling their crops. It's clear that an organic farmers market has a great deal of potential and it has been seen here. Knowing all of this, wouldn't it be a safe bet that Dorothy would be successful in raising money thanks to unaltered crops of her own?

Dorothy's life on the farm might not have been that glorious but it not like she lived a fruitless life. Being able to go through Oz and growing up in the process was something that undoubtedly helped her out in the real world. She would come away from it a better person and she wouldn't be so shy about tackling opportunities that were set in front of her. Whether she becomes a salesperson or not, there's no question that she has the potential for success.
