Super Bowl Party Success

By Ken Kudra

The big game is coming up. You want to invite everyone over so they can watch it on your new big screen television. Yet you worry about how to set up the big party. Everyone is looking forward to it and you do not want them to be disappointed! Luckily, there are lots of ways to keep the fuss to a minimum with a Super Bowl party.

Remember the hours you enjoyed at tailgating parties during football season? Why not use the same idea for your Super Bowl party? You can use lawn chairs in your living room to add that casual feeling. Set the food out buffet style on a big table so everyone can help themselves. Get some stacks of high quality paper plates and some durable plastic utensils... it will make cleaning up so much easier! Play on those memories of tailgating in the comfort of your own living room.

Make sure you have plenty of drinks on hand. Water, soda and beer are easy to supply and easy to serve. Just put the cans and bottles in ice chests and set them near the food table. We are tailgating! Cheering on your favorite team is thirsty work, so keep the drinks flowing!

When it comes to food, think snacks. Every good Super Bowl party is known for its wonderful snack food. Snacks are easy to make and if they get spilled during a great play, they are easy to clean up. Consider foods like nachos, pizza, chicken wings or meatballs... your guests want something they can pop in their mouths and stay in the spirit of the game. If you serve foods like chili or something else that needs a plate or bowl, be prepared in case it gets spilled. Serve up your buffet using platters and crock pots to keep the food ready at hand.

A traditional snack at Super Bowl parties is the giant sub sandwich. Pile it high with goodies and serve it with lots of chips and dips on the side. Make some finger foods like sausage rolls or little smokies. They are simple to prepare and they taste delicious. Keeping the food simple lets you enjoy yourself, too!

It is inevitable that some of your guests may not be the biggest football fans. They will want a place away from the TV where they can chat and enjoy each other's company while they eat. If small children will be at the party, prepare an area away from the game where they can play with toys and enjoy their own snacks.

Making Superbowl party food should be stress free and simple. You should be able to enjoy the game if you wish, or stay with the guests who prefer to visit. Either way, choose foods that make it easy for you. If you can prepare some the day before, all the better. Offer the food throughout the afternoon so it is not all gone at one time.

You should be able to relax on Super Bowl Sunday, or at least join in the mayhem as your team makes the winning touchdown. Football fans do get intense at times. Either way, you should revel in feeding your guests delicious snacks and having a ball.
