Slow Cooker Recipes Are Alll Over The Place, So Why Can't I Find...

By Gina Haskn

I have been on the quest for very good slow cooker recipes for a very long time, and I can not apparently find anything that i like.

I suppose it's on the grounds that I'm really picky concerning what I like to eat, and many of the recipes which i arrive upon have something in them that i just won't be able to stomach. I'm still searching though, and I hope to come up with a minimum of ten of them which are seriously beneficial and quite simple to toss together. You'll find just times when I am aware I have lots of work to perform and I would preferably spend my free time with my little girl than by cooking a meal.

Slow cooker recipes are all over the place, and you also can discover these with a easy search on the internet. The most typical kind tend to be recipes for stew, yet all of them seem to contain the identical ingredients. The difficulty that i have may be that I do not like cooked onions, and when a recipe calls for them, I won't make it. My life partner thinks I'm being ridiculous, but I simply can't eat these. I like these raw over a burger or hotdog, yet I can't stand to have them in slow cooker recipes. Alas, this cuts down my possibilities pretty substantially.

You might not be as picky as I am, if that's the case, you should have absolutely no obstacle finding slow cooker recipes which you will love to create for your family. Generally, you simply add the ingredients to your cooker, switch it on and allow it to go all day long. You won't have to stir it. You are able to even unearth remarkable slow cooker recipes inside your local grocery store. They have kits which have been already assembled and you also typically discover these at the freezer section. Almost all you need to do is dump the contents inside your crock-pot and turn it on. It does not get easier than that.

I may end up having to unearth slow cooker recipes which i could alter. Even though this could take some carrying out, I'm positive there's a thing I am able to do. I am not really a chef, but I do know the way to experiment, even when it means ordering pizza one or two evenings when a couple of of my creations have not worked out like I had hoped they did. In the mean time, I'll continue to look for slow cooker recipes which may be able to be made use of, and possibly try out some from the grocery store.

Want Something Sweetly With No Messy? Go For Honey

By Christina Bowler

We all know it's unhealthy to eat a lot of sugar, but sometimes, we just have to satisfy that proverbial sweet tooth. Unfortunately, substitute sugar alternatives are even less healthy than the real thing, with chemically based sweeteners like aspartame, saccharine, or Splenda. Even though these things have few to no calories, they are not without their risks, and some people are very sensitive to them and can't have them. We also don't know just what the long-term health consequences of ingesting these substances are. Honey is a great alternative to this, but you can't just buy honey in convenient quantities, always, and store it for long-term use. It's inconvenient to use, and it can be messy as well.

Luckily, there's an alternative. Organic honey crystals have all of the convenience of sugar (as well as the long-term storage capabilities), and you measure, use, and store this 'Sugar honey' just as you do sugar. You can use it in anything; use it to cook cakes, stir them into your tea or coffee, splatter them on oatmeal or cold cereal.

Organic honey crystals let you have all of honey's benefits without any of the mess. Think about that for a minute; why do you buy honey? It tastes great, naturally, but there's also the undeniable fact that it's natural and organic, has some mineral and vitamin content, and advantageous antibacterial properties, too. Apart from that, it's got a taste that no other sweetener can match.

Organic honey crystals have the same great taste with none of honey's inconvenience. No mess, no crystallization, no long-term storage problems. Kids love organic honey crystals, too (although as with any honey, this "Sugar honey" should not be given to babies under one year of age because of potential food poisoning contraindications). And because it's no mess, you can let your little ones handle the "Sugar honey" themselves, without fear of sticky fingers, or any kind of mess.

Are you able to have Sugar honey if you are diabetic?

As with any caloric sweetener, including regular honey, diabetics have to be careful of the sugars they ingest. However, as with regular honey, someone who has type 2 diabetes may be able to use organic honey crystals sparingly to better effect than refined sugars, without the same risks refined sugar use normally give you. As with anything dietary, check with your health care practitioner if you have diabetes to find out if "Sugar honey" can be a healthier alternative for you in moderation than refined sugar is.

Beyond all of the health benefits, naturally, Sugar honey is just a great way to have honey taste without any of the mess or fuss regular honey can offer you. There are no problems about crystallization, no problems about storage, no sticky mess to address. If you typically buy honey, try some Sugar honey to see if organic honey crystals make a fine addition to your cupboard or cupboard, for all your baking and cooking wishes. Try it; use it in everything you normally use sugar for and see if you do not like the taste even better than regular sugar gives you. To a healthy life and a 'sweet' beginning!

What's Your Favorite Fair Food? Corn Dogs!

By Susanne Myers

Our family's memories from the County Fair usually revolve around food. Once we step foot within those gates, we head straight to our favorite fair food, and that favorite food is corn dogs. There's nothing better in our book!

Even though we have tried to recreate those fair food memories by buying pre-packaged corn dogs, it's never quite the same. I don't know if it's the aromas or the taste, but regardless, the corn dogs you can get in the freezer section of the grocery store just don't offer the same appeal. That is how we came to develop our own version of deep fried corn dogs made right in our kitchen.

Are corn dogs nutritionally balanced? Some might argue that eating a corn dog is really ingesting useless calories and fat. However, when you make corn dogs at home you can control the ingredients, making this treat something you can make more nutritious, and delicious.

First of all there's the hot dog itself. Many years ago there was really only one or two hot dog brands to choose from, and they both had basically identical ingredients. Now when you walk up to the meat counter, you'll see a full array of hot dogs to choose from that can boggle the mind. If you don't eat beef or pork, there's turkey or chicken. There are even vegetarian style hot dogs. You can even get hot dogs stuffed with cheese or made with beer. The choices are endless so choose the hot dog that best suits your tastes and dietary preferences. A hot dog can actually be nutritious nowadays!

When it comes to the coating, this is where you can make some flavor changes, as well as healthier choices. You can choose whole wheat flour instead of white flour. You can cut back on the salt or use only the egg whites for the coating. Some pre-packaged corn dogs have added sugar, so that's certainly something you can eliminate. Add a few herbs and seasonings for a whole new flavor and added color.

You also get to choose the oil you use when you make your own corn dogs at home. When you are at the fair, you don't get to choose what oil they use or how long they've been using it. The oil you use should have what's called high "smoke points", in other words, it should be tolerant of high temperatures. Normally, you'll want a clean, clear refined oil such as refined sunflower or safflower oil. Many people also use peanut oil or corn oil. Be sure to read the label to check if it will work for high temperatures.

Be sure to get your oil up to the temperature recommended by your deep fryer. If you are using a heavy skillet to fry your corn dogs, be sure to use a proper thermometer and check that the oil gets up to about 375 degrees before beginning. Fry only a couple corn dogs at a time. Don't crowd your deep fryer or skillet or the oil will cool down too much and the corn dogs will be left to soak in the oil and you'll end up with soggy corn dogs. Drain your corn dogs well using absorbent paper or clean flour cloth towels that have been spread on a rack so air circulates underneath. Cool, and you'll be ready to dig in!

The State and County Fairs are long gone, but the delicious memories still linger. Treat your family to a re-creation of those flavors with yummy corn dogs made right in your kitchen. What a fun way to bring the taste of summer home!

Feeding a Super Bowl Crowd

By Ken Kudra

The Super Bowl will be here before you know it. What will you serve to those crowds of screaming fans that will fill your living room? One of the best favors you can do for yourself is to keep it simple. Everyone will be focused on the TV during the game... they will not be interested in a sit down meal.

Set up your buffet table near enough to the television that no one will miss an exciting play. Hot food is perfect in the cold weather of February, so use your crock pots. Use crock pots to make pulled pork, chili, or stew. Swedish meatballs are simple to make in a crock pot. Set out a box of toothpicks and your guests can help themselves. You may want to make a pan of lasagna or a pot of spaghetti. Both can be assembled ahead of time and cooked quickly just before everyone arrives. Set the pans out on the buffet and let everyone dish up themselves. Buffalo chicken wings are easy to make ahead of time and reheat.

Serve plenty of chips and dip. Pour your favorite salsa over a block of cream cheese and set it out with some tortilla chips. Make deli sandwiches using French bread, baguettes or artisan loaves. Fill them with cold cuts and wrap them up for the fridge. Cut and serve whenever the table begins to look bare.

Use bread bowls for people to use for chili or even spaghetti. The bowl will taste as good as the filling. Make a bunch of baked potatoes or hot dogs and set them out with toppings. Your guests can design their own dog or potato by adding their favorites.

An appetizer only party is a great way to open up your options for food. You can serve everything from simple crackers and toppings to fancy appetizers like rumaki. It is completely up to you. Football fans will love anything wrapped in bacon. Try cooking cheese, shrimp, or sausage wrapped in bacon and served on a toothpick. While it probably will not be ht healthiest option, it will sure taste good!

Be sure to stock plenty of beverages. Beer is a favorite for the Super Bowl. Keep plenty in an ice chest near the food. For those who prefer something non-alcoholic, stock some soda, water, or juice. Everyone will get thirsty from cheering their team on to victory.

Whatever Superbowl party recipes you decide to make is up to you. Just make sure you make enough to satisfy your guests. Set the food out on the table in shifts so there is always something tasty to eat. You do not want to go down in history for running out of food by halftime.

Your guests will appreciate the efforts you went to providing them with a delicious afternoon. They will remember your successful party for a long time and you will even get to watch the game most of the time.

Soups for an Easy Meal

By Kristen Thorpe

There's a lot to love about a cup of delcious soup. Some people love the many flavors and textures, others the warmth and comfort. Lots of soups are so hearty they actually make a complete meal. Of course, in the summer heat, there is always the option of choosing from the cold soup favorites. Here are just a few of the basic types of soups you can create yourself.

When you look at soups, you can generally categorize them into either stock-based or non stock-based soups. Then there fruit soups as well, which generally do not use stock base. Stock based soups can include broth, bouillon, and consomm while non-stock based soups are typically your cream soups, purees, chowders, and bisques.

The majority of soup stocks start with a meat. The classic meat choices are commonly beef, lamb, turkey, veal, chicken, and fish. Lighter color meats such as poultry will create a light soup stock while the other darker meats will make a brown colored stock. To flavor the stock you'll typically add vegetables such as carrots, celery, and onion. These soups stocks are the basis for your family favorites including chicken soup, tomato soup, broths, and beef vegetable soups.

If you're making a rich thick puree or cream type soup you'll find they can be a perfect main course for a light dinner or afternoon luncheon. Create such classics as creamed corn or creamed broccoli, split pea, oyster or lobster bisque, bean or potato puree, clam chowder, and much more.

Then there are the fruit soups - these are delicious chilled soups that are perfect on a hot summer day. Refreshing varieties include cherry, honeydew melon, strawberry, peach, and cantaloupe. Some cold soup recipes will list fruit juices as a mixer while others use a vegetable-based soup stock in the recipe.

Nothing really compares to a delicious, well-made soup. Be sure to put the right finishing touch on your creamy soups with a simple garnish and serve it the appropriate dish, such as a nice covered soup dish for your bean or onion soup, or a nice flat round bowl for your cream soup. And be prepared for requests for second helpings.

Cold Weather Comfort Foods - Top Of The List Is Chicken And Dumplings

By Susanne Myers

If you ask any six people on the street to tell you their favorite comfort food, I believe at least one of those six people will say chicken and dumplings. Even though chicken soup and most every other one-pot style chicken dish may be right up there, for some reason chicken and dumplings just whispers "relax" gently in your ear.

Each person and each family has their own opinion of what a real chicken and dumplings meal should be. Depending on where you grew up and how your folks cooked would determine how you prefer making this chicken recipe. Let's examine a couple basic differences in some simple chicken and dumplings cooking methods.

Starting with the base for the recipe - the pot of chicken. Some folks swear that chicken and dumplings is no more than chicken soup with dumplings on top. This is one variety that is very well regarded, and very delicious, indeed. Simply taking your favorite chicken soup recipe and mixing up a batch of dumplings to drop on top is a great way to ensure your dish will be well loved by the whole family, since they already love your chicken soup!

Now we have the creamy chicken stew style of recipe. After you cook the chicken in a pot of water or broth, basically stewing it, you pick the meat off from the bones, shred or dice it, and return the meat to the pot. Then you add whatever you want to make it creamy - sour cream, milk, cream, or a combination. You can also add some chopped vegetables; anything you might in a stew. Once you bring the stew back up to a boil, you add the dumplings and cook until dumplings are done. You may have to add a bit of extra broth or water, but the end result is a thick, stew like dish with dumplings on top.

Another method is an oven baked chicken style of chicken and dumplings. Bake a cut up chicken in a Dutch oven until tender and remove it to the stove top. Then add your cut up vegetables if you like and some water or broth. Once the pot comes back to a boil, you can add your dumplings and cook as you desire. The chicken pieces are served whole with the veggies and dumplings on the side; similar to a pot roast style of dinner.

The subject of dumplings could be exhausting. We tend to take our dumplings quite seriously. However, some prefer to speed up the process and swear by the simple store bought biscuit, cut up and dropped into the chicken pot. Others prefer to whip up a simple dumpling with basic ingredients like flour, eggs, oil, salt, and ice water. You can even make dumplings with just flour, salt, and ice water. You can also make them a bit fancy with the addition of seasonings, cheese, and herbs.

The actual method for cooking your dumplings will vary according to the recipe. There is no one method that works better than another in every recipe. Some cooks swear by putting the lid back on the pot while others say the lid must remain off. Whatever works in your favorite chicken and dumplings recipes is all that really matters. You'll find the best method that works for your recipes, which is all any food lover wants anyway.

As you develop your own personal favorite chicken and dumplings recipes, don't fret about how each recipe differs so much. Like many comfort foods, this is another dish that most likely was created out of trial and error and with the food in supply during a cold, dark winter's day. After every attempt at making this much loved dish, you'll be able to look at a whole new collection of recipes for chicken and dumplings that were created by you and you alone! Enjoy!

Making Biscuits From Scratch Is Easier Than You May Think

By Susanne Myers

We're all in such a hurry it seems these days and nowhere is it more evident than in the kitchen. There was a time when dinner on the table meant hours of preparation. But, without someone home all day, how does a meal prepared from scratch take place? Perhaps the answer is choosing one part of the meal that can be made just like in the old days without too much trouble. How about some simple homemade biscuits?

Biscuits made from scratch are extremely kid-friendly and fuss-free! After throwing just a few simple ingredients into a bowl, you can get your kids involved by having them mix the dough with their hands. Because the dough doesn't need a lot of attention, even the most distracted little one will be done mixing before they lose their patience with the task!

Basic homemade biscuit recipes typically call for only about five ingredients: flour, salt, baking powder, shortening, and buttermilk or milk. You'll want to use a big, sturdy mixing bowl (unbreakable if you're having young kids mix the dough.) Once you or the kids measure everything into the bowl, you are ready to form the dough, then roll it out.

When making biscuits from scratch, you want to have a large surface to work on that's easy to reach. You will also need a little spare flour for rolling out the biscuit dough, and perhaps a rolling pin if you like, although pressing the dough out by hand is fine, too.

You can choose just about any circular object you want to cut out the biscuits. If you are involving the kids, be sure to choose something that's safe for them - like a clean soup can or such. You can use a real biscuit cutter, of course, if you have one. Even a regular water glass would work. Take your biscuit cutter, dip it in a little flour to keep the dough from sticking, push down on the dough, give a little twist, and pull back. Your biscuit should be all ready to plop out onto your baking sheet.

Remember to preheat your oven before you are done cutting out your biscuits. The oven should be fully preheated to a hot setting, probably around 450 degrees or so. Now that the biscuits are all cut out and arranged on a baking sheet, just pop them in the oven and watch them turn a wonderful golden brown.

Making homemade biscuits from scratch only takes about 20 minutes. Do you think you could sacrifice 20 minutes of time during your busy schedule tonight if you knew some hot, golden brown, buttery biscuits were the reward? I'm thinking the answer is "yes!"

Quick and easy meals are the norm today. We all need to have dinner on the table in record time. But, are you looking at your dinner table night after night thinking something's missing? With a few minutes and a few ingredients, you can serve your family hot, delicious homemade biscuits made from scratch. That's a meal idea that's worth celebrating!

Dinner Recipes

By Steven Vernon

We know we should eat healthy. We need what is best for our family. So why don't we eat how we are meant to eat? Let's take a look at some of the reasons why we tend to make unhealthy selections with some useful proposals for healthy dinner recipes.

In today's society, we are always on a tight schedule - working, running errands, driving our kids to and from school and extracurricular activities ; the list is unending. Grocery stores are turning into food malls. With all of the aisles and selections to navigate, we may feel we do not have time to go food store shopping.

Because most of the people only have one or two minutes to get dinner, they typically choose fast food, which is a convenient, albeit unhealthy choice. As a country, the U.S. Is becoming fatter and unhealthier. What we want to combat this quandary are healthy dinner recipe decisions that can be prepared fast.

There are literally thousands of cooking books on the market and many of them have exactly what we need : fast and healthy dinner recipes. But if you absolutely can't find time to make a healthy dinner at home ; go to the grocery store. Most supermarkets have an area where they sell roasted chicken and deli meats such as cut turkey. Both these options can be part of a healthy dinner. Grab a loaf of healthy whole grain bread, a bag of apples, and a gallon of milk and you have something miles better for you than a quarter pound hamburger with oily fries.

Finding top quality budget dinner recipes isn't a straightforward task, however thankfully there are a number of avenues that you can pursue that may help you in finding just the right budget dinner recipes which will suit you and your folks's needs .

To start with, ever thought about trying one of those inexpensive dinner recipes that they have in the supermarkets? You'll find them located on the shelves, generally in the fruit and plant section. These recipes often contain delicious, excellent meals, that should cost only a couple of dollars to prepare. If done correctly , you can reheat these meals and enjoy them again without having to worry about waste.

Another technique that you may consider is scouring the net for good quality recipes. There are usually a number of sites that list some delectable budget dinner recipes that are simple and easy to prepare. These budget recipes are commonly of a top quality, and designed for all levels of frugal chefs, suggesting you shouldn't have any difficulties readying a delightful and good meal that all the family will enjoy.

Some of the finest budget dinner recipes are those passed down in old cooking books. Sure there are plenty of new mags and books out there that offer some decent dinner recipes, but you'd be quite surprised to find that a lot of traditional cooking books have some great and ideal dinner recipes that should not cost too much. You can often reuse a large amount of these meals for left overs, and eat them for breakfast, or freeze them.

Quick And Easy Dinner Recipes

By Anita Marlene

For most families, dinner is one of the most important meals. It is where most family members have the time to eat together and talk about the day's event. Dinner may not be complete without a healthy and heart warming food. Rather than bringing home ready to eat food, it's still best if you could prepare home cooked food for dinner to the elation of the whole family.

Since we are mostly exhausted thanks to a entire day's work, it is often exhausting to prepare food for dinner. But this is no problem at all as there are a lot of easy dinner recipes which you can easily prepare a delicious food for dinner. For most families, dinner is one of the most vital meals. It is where most family members have the time to eat together and talk about the day's event.

Dinner won't be complete without a healthy and heart warming food. Instead of bringing home ready for eating food, it is still best if you could prepare home cooked food for dinner to the delight of everyone. Since we are typically tired because of a full day's work, it is commonly exhausting to prepare food for dinner. But this is no problem at all since there are a large amount of simple dinner recipes which you can easily prepare a delicious food for dinner.

Are you chasing a quick, simple dinner recipe? You have come to the right place, and you are to be commended for your devotion to serving your family a home-cooked meal, even after putting in a long day at work. One of my favorites is a homemade burger mac.

Simply brown some ground beef in a pan - about a pound will do - and chuck in some green pepper pieces and cut onions while you cook the meat. Then, get a box of elbow macaroni out of the pantry ( or some other little pasta that you have on hand ) and boil it up al dente. Then, go the cupboard and grab a can or maybe two of diced tomatoes or tomato ketchup or perhaps spaghetti sauce.

Put the tomatoes in the skillet with the browned beef, onions, and peppers, and stir to heat the tomatoes through. Once the pasta is cooked, drain it and add it to the skillet too. Add in some mozzarella, provolone, or cheddar cheese, and there you have it! A simple fast easy dinner recipe that everyone will love.

You have more control of food you prepare at home. You're less sure to go overboard on the carbohydrates and you can watch the fat, salt and sugar content too. Go for fresh, simple food and do as little to it as you can. Combine this with a relaxed exercise routine of say, thirty mins brisk walking a day, and the weight problem will almost solve itself.

All of us are so busy these days, but if you can make a house rule that most are home at a certain time for dinner ( at least some of the time ), then you get the value of sharing a meal together as well as sharing some time together. This is made more special because you've prepared the meal yourself. In fact, get the youngsters involved and teach them some valuable skills while you are at it.

As an example, your online meal planner might call upon you to select from among 4 different entrees for your dinner. Or it might call upon you to pick the order in which you eat your elected meals for that day. Or it may call on you to choose any food in a selected food group.

Oftentimes, an online meal planner doubles as a teaching help. Of course , you can use the meal plans the planner generates for you and learn how to conform them to your post-dieting life, after you have lost all of your weight. Or you can use the meal planner as a basis from which you can learn to adapt and deviate. For example, if the meal planner doesn't list a particular food in its menu selection but you know from your own independent research that you can substitute it in and still achieve your desired weight control results, then you are free to do so.

Tomato Gravy - Your Mama Had The Right Idea

By Susanne Myers

Like most comfort foods, Tomato Gravy was developed out of necessity. In other words, we ate what we had on hand. When times were hard, we foraged in our pantries and gardens and came up with dinner. Big pots and skillets bubbled away on the stove, biscuits baked in the oven, and we sat down and ate as a family.

Perhaps that's why certain foods make us feel good. Even if we don't remember hard times like our parents or grandparents did, we sat at the table with these family folks eating the comfort foods from their youth, and it became our comfort food.

When it comes to varieties in recipes, Tomato Gravy is at the top of the list. There are as many variations as there are cooks. We make simple tomato gravy during the winter with whatever we have on hand - if I have canned diced tomatoes, that's what I use. If I have tomato sauce, I use that. If the garden is ripe, I pick tomatoes. If I have onion on hand, I might throw some in. The basic flour and oil thickened tomatoes recipe has a lot of room for tweaking.

Tomato Gravy starts with a good, golden roux. Every cook knows you need a thickener to begin your tomato gravy dish and that thickener should be a mixture of oil and flour cooked until it's slightly golden in color - in other words, a roux. If you are afraid to let your roux get golden color, you will end up with a flour taste in your finished dish. You can use a combination of butter and oil for extra flavor, but don't use only butter as it tends to burn rather easily.

Whether you need a side dish or a full meal, tomato gravy can be part of your family's menu plan. Bake some potatoes and top with some tomato gravy, a dollop of sour cream, and a sprinkle of crispy bacon pieces and you have a great meal that's filling and comforting. Breaded chicken cutlets with tomato gravy spooned over the top is a treat that any hungry family will love. You might even serve tomato gravy for breakfast, spooned over some hash with an egg on top.

Even if you don't happen to have an old family recipe for tomato gravy, there are plenty of resources to find one. Any good cookbook will have at least one recipe and the internet recipe sites will have plenty to choose from. You'll probably be overwhelmed at first because there are so many variations. Stick to the most simple recipes at first. You can always expand later, but even the simplest recipe of a roux, tomatoes with salt and pepper will taste great when you're hungry!

One thing to keep in mind when you're looking at recipes is that you'll see cooks using a cast iron skillet. I love my cast iron skillets too much to boil up tomato gravy in them. It looks pretty on the pictures in the cookbooks, but tomatoes are very acidic and will quickly destroy your cast iron skillet's patina. Use your regular pots and pans for this dish and save your cast iron skillet for frying up your chicken.

Yes, comfort foods were created by harvesting what we had and turning it into a filling, comforting meal for our hungry family. So, when you can turn some tomatoes into a meal with very few ingredients, that is one very clever comfort food, indeed. Make a batch of Tomato Gravy for your family the next time you want to gather around the table and treat your family to a meal made with love!

A Waffle Recipe Made Simple

By Ben Cook

Cooking isn't for everyone. Some people claim they can't make anything. But with a simple waffle recipe, you can make a yummy breakfast. There are so many mixes in boxes and ready-made frozen waffles. Isn't that just simpler?

Throwing a frozen waffle into the toaster is certainly easier than making one from scratch, but nothing beats a nice, fresh homemade kind. Most waffle recipes are simple and use ingredients that we usually have on hand. Before you start, make sure you actually do have all the ingredients, just in case. There is nothing worse than getting started only to find out half-way through that you are short one egg.

One simple recipe calls for flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, eggs, butter and milk. Start with the dry stuff. In a large bowl, combine 8 ounces of flour, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, 1 tablespoon of sugar and a pinch of salt. Stir these up until well mixed. Set aside.

Melt 2 ounces of butter in a saucepan or the microwave. In a separate bowl, mix the butter with cup of milk and 3 eggs. Stir until completely blended. Now add this to the larger bowl of dry ingredients and keep stirring until you get rid of all the lumps. Your batter is complete. Letting it sit for a few minutes will let it flavor. Now, turn on and heat up the waffle iron.

Once the iron has heated up, spray with a non stick cooking spray. Using a ladle, pour cup of the batter into the waffle iron. If a ladle is not handy, you can use a spoon. Close the iron and cook. Waffles are done when they are golden brown on both sides and can be removed easily. You will get about 8 waffles. You'll be able to adjust the yield by changing the recipe. For example, for 4 waffles, use half of each ingredient. For 16 waffles, use twice as much of each.

If you want to get creative, you can add blueberries, cinnamon, chocolate chips, chopped bananas or raisins. Actually, anything you can think of can go inside your batter! Just be creative and make sure that whatever extras you add are sliced or cut small enough to be bite size. Otherwise they may be too difficult to cook and to eat.

This recipe can also be adjusted to be more heart-healthy. Substitute the flour with wheat flour, use low fat butter and free range eggs.

That's all you have to do! This simple waffle recipe can be followed by just about anybody. One last thing: if you don't have a waffle Iron, no problem. This batter could be used to make pancakes as well. Just as yummy!

Crock Pot Cooking And The Summer Heat

By Owen Jones

When the weather outside warms up, the kitchen can be a terrible place to be. There are lots of things you can do however, when it comes to cooking a nice home made meal that does not necessitate traditional stove top or oven cooking.

Learn to utilize some of the less heat-creating equipment in your kitchen, such as the crock pot, in order to truly overcome the summer heat and keep your cool while cooking a nice hot meal for friends and family.

So, how does crock pot cooking actually help beat the heat? Simply put, the crock pot in and of itself gives off far less heat when cooking than an oven or stove top. This is the first and possibly the best reason to utilize the crock pot in your summer meal planning.

You should also take into account the fact that by not heating the house by using your stove top or oven you are also reducing the load on your air conditioning (or other cooling methods) so you are not requiring it to work overtime in order to make up for the additional heat that other cooking methods introduce.

This makes crock pot cooking a win-win situation as the costs involved in operating a crock pot are far less than the expenditure involved in operating a stove or oven. Whether electric or gas, your stove and oven are serious energy users. Add to that the fact that you are not increasing the temperature in your home by traditional means of cooking and you are using even less electricity.

Regrettably, the general consensus has been that crock pots are meant for comfort foods and hearty winter meals. The truth is that the crock pot should be one of your best loved and most often utilized cooking techniques. When it comes to cooking with a crock pot, the options are almost limitless. Almost anything that can be baked can be made in the crock pot and many, many more wonderful and tempting meals and treats as well.

Benefits of Crock Pot Cooking

In addition to the cost benefits mentioned above, when it comes to crock pot cooking there are many other advantages that are worth mentioning. For a start the bulk of the work involved in crock pot cooking takes place early in the day when you are fresh rather than at the end of a hectic work or play day.

The result is that you are less likely to forget an ingredient or make some other slip-up, which can easily happen when trying to cook after a busy day.

Second, many great crock pot recipes include the vegetables that ensure that we get the nutrients we require. So often, when preparing a meal at the last minute, vegetables and other side dishes are left out for the sake of expedience. Crock pot cooking, on the other hand, is a meal in one pot.

Another good reason to use a crock pot for your summertime cooking is the ease of washing up. Unlike conventional cooking with a couple of pots and pans, most crock pot meals are completed in one pot. This clearly reduces the hardware required to be washed up or loaded into the dishwasher (or if you are the same as me - both) afterwards.

So, you spend less time cleaning up, just as you spent less time slaving over a hot stove. Well, make that no time slaving over a hot stove and once the washing up is done, you can get back to enjoying the sun set, mucking about with with the dog or kids, or just waiting for the first stars.

While there will never be a method of cooking that suits everyone, crock pot cooking comes pretty close. So, if you have a crock pot collecting dust somewhere in the back of your cupboard it is time to get it out, dust if off, and dig up some great summertime crock pot cooking recipes.

Hanukkah Cooking Traditions

By Owen Jones

Whether you are genuinely seeking opportunities to explore new cultures or you are Jewish seeking appetizing recipes and cooking tips, you have come to the right place to get some of the basics. For as long as there have been family customs, eating good food at special events and during holy times has been a part of the jollity.

Unfortunately, that appetizing food cannot be enjoyed unless someone goes to the trouble of actually preparing it. If you are looking for some delicious treats to go with the Hanukkah celebrations or just want to get a taste of what other cultures do during their religious or cultural celebrations there are lots of appetizing foodstuffs you could be cooking for this particular holiday.

Oil is important in the celebration of Hanukkah and, as a consequence, many of the foodstuffs that are to do with Hanukkah traditions are cooked in oil. One well-liked favorite is Latkes, which are a kind of potato pancake that is deep-fried. Another popular favorite is fried lamb chops. The lamb is breaded and then fried much the same as many Americans fry chicken. Once again oil is used in the preparation of the meal.

If you are looking for something more like finger food or a snack, you might consider deep-fried ricotta balls, fried zucchini, fried onion rings and fried mozzarella are appetizing savory fried tid-bits for the season of light. Of course, fried food is not the only thing that is eaten during this 8-day celebration, but it does play a vital part in the menu and in the celebrations.

Even the sweet treats for this celebration include a few fried goodies. There are apple fritters and raspberry dough nuts and plenty of other scrumptious fried foods for you to snack on. If you like something a little wicked to enjoy during this delightful celebration you might like to try blintzes in your favorite flavor. There are many to choose from and their recipes can be found easily online.

If you would like to provide something a little healthier in your cuisine, then you might like to include an Israeli salad, stewed white beans, and baked eggplant and peppers. These dishes provide the opportunity to have something that is not either fried or sweet to help weight watchers, who always have a problem during festive seasons no matter which religion they practice.

Other Hanukkah favorites include scrumptious dishes such as cheese gelt coins, loukoumades, vegetable kugel, and brisket. Once again the recipes for these dishes are very extensively accessible online and in books on Jewish cooking and traditions.

To make things go a little more efficiently cook as much food as possible well in advance and store items away quickly in order to stop them going off. Enlist the help of children and other family members when appropriate to move things along by taking turns preparing food.

You should also make an effort to keep the preparations as straightforward as possible to avoid delays and stress. This is a time of the year that is supposed to be dedicated to celebration not to struggling to cook tons of food. The good news is that with all that deep fried food, it is unlikely that you will find these dishes too difficult to prepare. Good luck and have fun exploring the world of cooking for Hanukkah.

The Best Waffle Recipe To Make Waffles From Scratch

By Ben Cook

If you are reading this article, than you are likely concerning yourself with one particular method to prepare and create waffles. Through these paragraphs, I will detail a step by step approach to making these delicious additions to your day. So, the following is a great waffle recipe that you can easily prepare and enjoy.

This recipe is something that you can prepare anytime, and there are not a lot of steps and ingredients that are necessary to prepare it either. If you were to search out recipes for waffles, you will find that several different sources have different ways of making these treats, but I have complied what I use and consider to be the easiest way to make them.

First and foremost, you are going to need a waffle iron. There is really no getting around this, because it is very difficult to make waffles without one. You can prepare all of this, and without a waffle iron, you only have the ingredients to make pancakes in a skillet or on a griddle.

You might also be delighted to realize that there aren't a page and a half of ingredients either to make these delicious treats. So without further ado, I bring to you your necessary ingredients list. You will need tsp of baking soda, 2 large eggs, 2 cups of flour, 3 tsps of salt, 8 tbsps of butter, 2 cups of warm milk, 2 tsps of dry yeast, 1 tsp of sugar and a cup of warm water.

So let's get down to business, you have to start off by combining the water and the yeast until it gets frothy. Ten minutes later you will add in the milk, flour, butter, and salt and blend very well into the existing mix. This mixture should sit in your refrigerator overnight and allow to thicken.

The following morning you have to beat in the eggs and baking soda. If you were going to add in any fruit or flavoring to make the recipe your own, now would be the time to do so. Next, you would pour this completed mixture into a heated waffle iron and allow to cook inside the machine until the waffle is a crisp and golden brown.

You might be able to find a ton of ways to prepare and make waffles, but this might be the best waffle recipe that I have come across. I can vouch for the taste, as this is the recipe I use to make waffles for myself and my family. So try it out for yours.

Food: Five Tips On Cooking

By Owen Jones

There can not be many people who do not like their food, but the human race, being what it is, I presume that there are a few of them. Nonetheless, for the rest of us, cuisine is a font of every day pleasure and, like a beverage, it is frequently used to denote a celebration. not only that, but various foodstuffs are eaten for the different meals or distinct celebrations.

Commemorative meals were indubitably planned around the seasonal foods available, but some foodstuffs were ferried huge distances for the benefit of those who could afford them. For example, my Dad considered it a grand treat to be given an orange in his stocking on Christmas Day 60 years ago. How the times have altered! Very few kids would think an orange a gift, special or not, any day of the year nowadays.

Nonetheless, the preservation of foodstuff is still a daily concern and subsequently, I have listed a couple of good tips on preserving foodstuff below, so that you will get the best from that which you have purchased or grown in your garden even a long while afterward.

The Quickest Quiche: a quiche is the conventional healthy fast food and this is one of the best quick ways to make one. Put one onion, four eggs four ounces/125 grammes of butter, half a pint/250 ml milk, baking powder, 2 ounces/60 grammes of grated Cheddar cheese, parsley, salt and pepper and anything else you like into a strong food mixer/blender. Whirl it all up together and pour it into an appropriate dish, lined if you have it with some pre-made, shop bought, pastry. Bake at 190C/375F/Gas Mark 6 for 40 minutes. It serves four and is delicious.

Heavenly Hamburgers: next time you make hamburgers, do not salt the meat before cooking them. Use your traditional recipe and make the patties as normal. Then, put a handful of sea salt in your favourite heavy duty frying pan and heat it up to very hot. Drop the hamburgers onto the salt and cook as usual. The outside of the hamburger will go crisp and the fat will be kept to the absolute minimum.

Salmon In The Papers: a great way to cook a whole salmon is to cook it in newspaper. You ought to try it. Prepare your salmon according to your favourite recipe. Then wrap in three or four thoroughly drenched sheets of newspaper (any name). Make a nice parcel out of it; as neat as you can. Place the soaking-wet parcel on a baking tray in the centre of a moderate oven. Bake until the paper is dry on the top and then turn it over. When that side is dry the salmon is done. It'll take about an hour. If you want to eat it hot, peal the paper off straight away and dish up. If you want to eat it cold, leave the package until it is cold and then unwrap. Either way the skin will stick to the newspaper.

Off The Wall: if you are unsure when spaghetti is fit to be eaten, through a strand at a tiled wall. If it sticks, it is done.

Cheap And Cheerful: for a quick, healthy, unusual summer sandwich filling, pick some fresh, young dandelion leaves; wash them thoroughly; dress if you wish and put between slices off a good loaf of bread.

Carrots, Carotenoids and Health

By Jason Jones

There are more than 600 known carotenoids. Carotenoids are naturally occurring plant pigments that provide the orange and yellow colors we see in plants and their produce. The vibrant orange color of carrot is provided by its high carotenoid content, in fact carrots are the biggest known source of carotenoids. Of the 600 known carotenoids, about 50 of them can also be converted to vitamin A by the liver.

The most abundant carotenoid in carrots is beta-carotene. Beta-carotene is also the first carotenoid to be discovered back in 1831 by Heinrich Wilhelm Ferdinand Wackenroder, one of the most well researched. Some time later researchers found that beta-carotene was transformed into vitamin A by the body, helping to prevent the once common problem of night blindness.

So how do carrots help the eyes? Once beta-carotene is turned into vitamin A, vitamin A is then turned into another substance called rhodopsin. Rhodopsin is a purple based chemical needed by the eyes to actually see in the dark. No rhodopsin - no night vision!

As antioxidants, beta-carotene and other carotenoids in carrots help protect the eyes from harmful oxygen molecules in UV light. These harmful molecules, also known as free radicals, attack healthy cells in the eyes. This damage is one major risk factor for the development of glaucoma, cataracts and macular degeneration.

There is evidence that carotenoids help to protect us against heart disease. A study undertaken in Massachusetts reviewed the diets of 1,300 elderly people. Those who ate carrots or squash (another carotenoid rich food source) daily were 60% less likely to suffer a heart attack compared to those who ate carrots and squash less than once a day.

Our eyes benefit greatly from carotenoids. Two carotenoids called lutein and zeaxanthin are densely packed in the eye, where they protect the retina from some of the damaging effects of UV light. Green leafy vegetables such as spinach and kale are among the best food sources for both these carotenoids.

And if that's still not enough, carotenoids also aid diabetes. Researchers studied the effects of carotenoid consumption upon blood sugar levels in diabetics. Amazingly, carotenoids actually helped to lower spikes in blood sugar levels!

To increase your daily intake of carotenoids, I recommend making your own homemade carrot juice. Carotenoids, like other nutrients, always work best when taken naturally in a food source. Juicing also makes carotenoids more easily available for digestion.

Apple Crisp: The Secret Background of an American Classic

By Milly Hills

Nothing asserts fall like apple crisp, the warm cinnamon scent and sweet apples as much a part of autumn for many people as red leaves and cold weather. Or, presumably, it reminds you of highschool cafe, where a very sad and soggy version of apple crisp is a common staple of lunchtime.

Apple crisp, or apple crumble if you're from the United Kingdom, appears like the type of old time dish that's been handed down for generations. You can pretty simply imagine the travellers eating it at the first Thanksgiving. Despite this antique feel, apple crisp has an incredibly brief account.

Apple crisp doesn't make an appearance in cookbooks until 1924, so its creation potentially only goes back a few decades before. This is a record of a little more than a century, making it a reasonably fresh addition to the North American menu. The dish became speedily and immensely favored by some years of appearing in cooking books, as newspapers and personal recommendation spread the recipe.

The advantage of apple crisp is that it's significantly better to make than apple pie, another fall fave. Rather than needing to be in a position to create a crust for a pie and then get it baked exactly right an amazingly tricky task, apple crisp only needs that you be ready to layer the ingredients in an acceptable pan.

At its most basic, apple crisp is simply a dessert composed of baked apple covered by a crisp crust. Often, the crust is also covered in brown sugar and cinnamon to add an extra level of sweetness to the top, as well as the brown sugar that's to be expected with the baked apples.

More specifically, you are going to find cooked apples, butter, sugar, flour, cinnamon, and frequently oats, brown sugar, ginger, and / or nutmeg. There are about as many different recipes for apple crisp as there are people that eat it, and even veteran bakers rarely make it a exact same way twice.

There are heaps of variants possible from the choice of sugars to using oats to including other fruits. Peaches are a reasonably common addition to apple crisp, and it's not at all uncommon to find stuff like raspberry or blueberry crisp on the menu.

Rhubarb is a popular ingredient, as it provides a tart taste that contrasts with the sweetness of the pie. For the same reason, you want to consider your selection of apples, the most elementary ingredient in the dish, when you decide to make your apple crisp.

An apple, of course, isn't just an apple. They come in lots of varieties, with a huge range of sizes, tastes and textures. Apples can range from fairly sour to very sweet, and making sure to get the right sweetness is essential so that you'll know how much sugar to use.

Similarly, apples can have a range of textures, from crisp to almost floury, and it's imperative to grasp the feel of your apples before baked them so that you get an apple crisp that basically tastes good and has a nice mouth feel.

The Care And Feeding For A Nonstick Pan

By Mike Wills

A nonstick pan might be a great addition to a kitchen's arsenal of cookware utensils, but it must be cared for correctly in order to last a good, lengthy time. There are many different varieties of these pans on the market and every one regularly have a particular way it has to be cleaned or which utensils can be used with it. Here are some tips for selecting and looking after your new cookware.

When choosing a nonstick pan, you should take a look at the working surface of the interior on the pan. The coatings are applied one of a couple of methods, rolled on or sprayed. Be sure to avoid the rolled on ones as they're going to wear out more rapidly and the technique to tell the difference is that the sprayed on is smooth while the rolled one has small ridges and bumps in the material. The sprayed on layer is going to be in layers while the rolled on one will probably be a single layer and not as strong.

Each manufacturer of these will include cleanup directions with the pan plus some will even have suggestions on which dish soaps and cleaners to use. Be sure to follow them carefully to help extend the life of your brand new nonstick pan. Among the fastest ways to ruin these pans is by improper cleanup methods and using the wrong cleaning tools.

When cleaning a nonstick pan, use a nylon sponge only. This helps to avoid any needless harm to the cooking surface. Make sure to avoid harsh cleansers such as scouring powder and by no means use steel wool. It will scratch the working surface, weakening it and eventually it will begin to flake off, which will absolutely defeat the objective of buying a pan like this in the first place.

A nonstick pan should never be used together with metal utensils such as spatulas, knives, spoons or forks. These as well, will damage the surface, making the pan just another piece of cookware without non stick attributes. There are numerous suppliers and manufacturers online that sell the appropriate nylon utensils to be employed with these pans and those ought to be the only things that touch the inside of the pan, except for your meal.

Nonstick cookware is available in many different sizes and styles to fit virtually any cooking need. These could be bought separately or in sets and the sets will evennormally include the proper cooking utensils. Each maker and dealer website will have a complete description shown with all the pieces inside the set and any finishing touches that could accompany the item.

Nonstick cookware can last a lifetime if correctly cared for. By following the directions for use and cleaning carefully, you can make sure many hours of food preparation enjoyment with them. Cookware like this performs best if a cooking spray is used instead of cooking oil and it is said that the spray is notably healthier for you and your family, which in and of itself is a plus to owning the sort of pan.

Some Lesser Know Italian Cheeses

By Franklin Baggoio

Everyone is familiar with these popular Italian cheeses: Parmesan, Mozzarella, Provolone, Ricotta and Asiago. You can find these in any grocery store, and they are popular in many recipes. But these are only a few of the delicious cheeses Italy has to offer! It's time to get to know some of the lesser known varieties and expand your knowledge and palette.

Ubriaco. In Italian, Ubriaco means drunken! It's aptly named, because it matures in wine. First the cheese is encased in the grape rinds left over from the pressing. Then it is soaked in wine for up to six months before it's ready for sale. It's a hard, mild cheese of cow's milk and it takes on the flavor of the type of wine in which it is soaked. The result is a fine cheese with a fruity taste and dark purple rind.

Castelmagno. This one is primarily made of cow's milk, but has either sheep or goat milk mixed in. It is made by leaving the milk out overnight. Then they add the fresh milk from the morning to the batch. After processing, it is aged in a damp cellar. This process creates fine blue veins that add a spicy taste. It is pungent, to a greater or lesser degree depending on where it was aged.

Ragusano. This is a Sicilian cheese. It is made in Ragusa, Sicily (an island off the main coast of Italy). It is made from the milk of a special breed of cow called a Modicana. Because of this, they make it in small batches only. While it's aging, it is repeatedly rubbed down with oil and vinegar. The result is a savory, slightly tangy flavor.

Montasio. Montasio was originally made by the Maggio monastery back in the thirteenth century. At that time it was made of sheep's milk, but now it is made with cow's milk. It is made exclusively in northeastern Italy. It's a hard cheese, and becomes harder as it ages. It has a fruity taste, sometimes with a hint of pineapple flavor.

Pannerone. Very soft and exceptionally creamy, it's made from cow's milk. It goes through a rigorous process of curdling, draining, and storing at warm temperatures for a week. In about two weeks it is ready for sale. This makes it difficult to find outside of Europe. It has a taste and look similar to that of Gorgonzola, but without veining. It is smooth and has a slightly bitter aftertaste.

Fiore Sardo. This cheese is made only in Sardinia. This is a region of Italy that is hot and dry, which are very different conditions from the typical northern Italian cheeses. They use unpasteurized sheep's milk. Depending on how long it matures, it is semi-hard to hard in texture. They cure it in smoke. It is also rubbed down in sheep's fat or sometimes olive oil. It can have a nice sweet taste that combines nicely with the smoky flavor.

As you can see, these Italian cheeses are very special and will be hard to find. If there is an Italian market near you, you can check there. If not, try your local special foods market to see if they can get it for you. The expense will be eased by the fact that you are getting to sample some of the finest authentic cheeses in the world.

Everyone is looking forward to it and you do not want them to be disappointed! Luckily, there are lots of ways to keep the fuss to a minimum with a Super Bowl party.

Remember the hours you enjoyed at tailgating parties during football season? Why not use the same idea for your Super Bowl party? You can use lawn chairs in your living room to add that casual feeling. Set the food out buffet style on a big table so everyone can help themselves. Make sure you have plenty of drinks on hand. Water, soda and beer are easy to supply and easy to serve. Just put the cans and bottles in ice chests and set them near the food table. We are tailgating! Cheering on your favorite team is thirsty work, so keep the drinks flowing!

When it comes to food, think snacks. Every good Super Bowl party is known for its wonderful snack food. Snacks are easy to make and if they get spilled during a great play, they are easy to clean up. Consider foods like nachos, pizza, chicken wings or meatballs... your guests want something they can pop in their mouths and stay in the spirit of the game. Making Superbowl party food should be stress free and simple. You should be able to enjoy the game if you wish, or stay with the guests who prefer to visit. Either way, choose foods that make it easy for you. If you can prepare some the day before, all the better. Offer the food throughout the afternoon so it is not all gone at one time.

You should be able to relax on Super Bowl Sunday, or at least join in the mayhem as your team makes the winning touchdown. Football fans do get intense at times. Either way, you should revel in feeding your guests delicious snacks and having a ball.

Shrimp Recipes are Practical for Weekday Cooking

By Allan Stearman

Do you think cooking shrimp recipes is only for the elite, trained chef? If you are overwhelmed with the thought, become familiar with the basics to open a new world.

Go beyond opening a box and putting it in the microwave. When you try a simple shrimp scampi recipe at home just once, and your family sits in awe, it will be a short step to adding grilled shrimp recipes or a shrimp pasta recipe. A simple grilled shrimp recipe can bring restaurant fare to the suburban kitchen. The main ingredient for shrimp recipes can be easily mastered.

All shrimp are not shrimps in size. The colossal tiger shrimp is an eye catching main attraction and contrasts with popcorn and bay shrimp found in tacos and salads. In between are medium pasta shrimp and large shrimp for the well-known shrimp cocktail. Grilled shrimp recipes frequently call for jumbo prawn.

When shopping for shrimp and price is a consideration, you will find that larger shrimp cost more per pound. Across the spectrum, fresh shrimp should be firm, moist, with clear flesh, and devoid of any ammonia odor or black spots on the shell. If your shrimp recipes call for 1 pound of shrimp, you will need 1 pounds of shrimp in the shell.

Any connoisseur of shrimp recipes knows that the closer to the source when you buy shrimp, the better the flavor. Frozen shrimp is most common on the market and the same maxims hold true as for all frozen foods. Be sure the product is thoroughly frozen and that there is no freezer burn. Thawing is best accomplished by leaving it in the refrigerator overnight or placing under running cold water. If the shrimp you purchase is previously frozen, the flesh should be firm and with a sheen.

If you are in a big hurry, then you can find less flavorful preprocessed shrimp. Learn how to quickly peel and devein unprocessed shrimp with these easy directions for peeling each shrimp.

A light incision down the back from the head end to the tail end allows the shell to be peeled away, revealing a black vein known as the sand vein. The tip of the knife can be used to remove the vein for discarding. Then immerse the shrimp in cold water, keeping all the shrimp at the same temperature as you proceed through your catch. It is simple to split the shrimp in half at this point by placing each face down on the cutting board and slicing through.

If you are not excited yet, then once you boil, bake, steam, saut, or broil your batch of seasoned shrimp, you will be. Especially when your weeknight audience cheers when served this classy fare. To be certain of success, never overcook the shrimp, which makes it tough. Be ready for applause and roses.
