Eating salad can be one of the best things you do for your body. Combined with the minerals and vitamins, the raw vegetables in salads contain very few calories and no fat. Nearly every food establishment in the world offers salads today. Restaurants have them and you can buy pre-made salad mixes in just about every grocery store in the world. But just why are they so healthy and what makes them so good?

Salads contain fresh vegetables and often fruits, which are important for your overall health. Fresh vegetables not only taste better, but contain more vitamins and nutrients than their cooked counterparts. Vegetables, when eaten daily, can help you to ward off heart disease and a number of other diseases and conditions. Vegetables contain many health benefits from lowering your cholesterol to improving your lifespan.

Eating fresh vegetables has been proven to have numerous health benefits from lowering the risk of heart disease to protecting you against eye-related diseases.Eating a salad every day for lunch or adding one on the side of your dinner plate is an excellent way to keep your body healthy. Eating raw vegetables gives you much needed minerals and vitamins and the crunch helps to protect your teeth.

For those who do not prefer the taste of raw vegetables, keep in mind that there are numerous ways to make your salad more appealing.Adding fresh fruit, nuts or lean meats will make your salad tastier and still give you the vegetable serving that you need for the day.Try to avoid adding high-fat foods to your salads. Avoid adding fatty proteins, meats, cheeses and egg yolks as much as possible. Remember that white cheese typically have less fat than yellow, so opt for mozzarella instead of cheddar. Remember also to choose a low fat dressing or simply add some fresh herbs to your salad in lieu of dressing.

You can try adding things like fresh herbs instead of dressing if you do not like fat-free versions. You can also opt to make your own dressing using a light olive oil and fresh herbs and spices.Eating salads, no matter what type, is an excellent way to improve your overall health. If you are trying to eat healthier, you simply cannot go wrong with a salad. Consider adding salad to your lunch or dinner everyday and experience the positive health benefits for yourself.
