Pork And How To Get The Most From It

By Musa Aykac

The fact that you can do so much with pork makes it a truly fantastic meat. But there are so many people who never really get to really taste pork as it should be because they do not know how to get the most from this meat. The following tips will ensure that you can bring out the best in pork.

- Pork should be cooked within three days of buying it to get the best from it; you really should not leave it in your fridge for any longer than four days at most. If you freeze pork it can lose its flavour; ham in particular loses its taste when frozen.

- When you buy pork, you should try to source it from a butcher rather than going to a supermarket and buying it pre-packed. When you use a butcher you can ensure that you are getting the meat exactly as you like it.

- If you intend to make pork ribs you need to make sure to remove the membrane off them before you cook. If you don't remove this membrane it means that the taste can't escape from underneath.

- The ideal thickness for pork chops should be one inch and this is particularly true for chops that you are planning to grill.

- Grilling is always a better method of cooking rather than frying if you want to be eating your pork in a healthy manner. Removing the excess fat from pork when cooking stews will ensure that the dish is healthier. The best way to do this is to let the stew stand for a while when it has finished cooking. After a while you will see a brown substance on the top of the stew which is the fat. Getting rid of this fat will ensure that the stew is healthier.

- It is important to consider the other ingredients when you cook pork; use products that will compliment the taste rather than change it.

- Portion sizes should really only about the size of the person's fist.
