Once you have the basic method then you can follow this and you can add various ingredients and flavors to make it different.

You will find these in restaurants and you can also make them at home very easily once you get the hang of it. Some are more rustic and others need more practice because they are gourmet dishes, but one can experiment. They are also perfect for the winter time because they often are composed of thick, hot tasty liquids with lots of flavor.

You will never get bored because you can actually try something new every night. Some people who enjoy cooking can experiment with various dishes.

Besides a big pot of chicken pieces with stock and vegetables, one can have a tray that you will pop into the oven. This can consist of a roast chicken with vegetables, such as potatoes and squash. You can also add chicken pieces covered with tomato sauce and a variety of vegetables. By adding in olives, this will turn into a Spanish dish.

A stir fry is easy to make once you get the hang of it. Usually the sauce is composed of a sweet part and a sour part. One should taste as you go along. It should basically coat the food and you don't really have to fry the food for too long. For this, one can use chicken breasts and noodles which only take a couple of minutes to make in hot water.

Stews are versatile and come in many forms. They can be thickened with flour or with vegetables as they cook away. Couscous is also a good one to use if you put it in at the end because the casserole or stew will absorb all of the water. You will use this for Moroccan chicken. Potatoes seem to thicken up a stew most of all.

Roast chicken is also good as a one pot dish, except that you put this in a tray. To be on the healthy side, this is not smothered in oil. One only needs a little olive oil at the bottom. You can choose your vegetables that you want. Usually one goes with potatoes and squash as well as pumpkin. There is usually enough for the next day, and leftovers are always great.

Most of the time, one thickens up a dish like this with flour or cornflour. However, the cornflour can give this a taste which is not to pleasant if you go overboard. The chicken should be coated in flour to start off with. Just shake the excess off. If you still need some at the end, then mix a little with some butter, put this in the fridge to harden and then mix it into the liquid. Vegetables should also thicken up the liquid.
